A search of the US Trademarks office has turned up two new SOE trademarks for Everquest

Underfoot .. finally.
Edit: LAME -- this is a EVERQUEST discussion, Put this back into the Veteran's Forum where it belongs and stop trying to bury the information.
They said that's how it would be leaked and they were right. Right?
Yay for brell, always wanted to kill that JERK@!
no way, i want Everquest: The Untold Story. And the last boss, Battleblade. Hes this huge guy who is only damaged by Undead abilities! (similar to txevu zun)
Knytul wrote:
Battleblade could only be slain by Paladins, kinda like the GoD mobs who had to be killed by a certain class. That would rule!
Alright lore freaks, tell us all about da Underfoot
Gah, so is this expansion going to be nicknamed "U" then?
Better than "F U" I guess, need to look me up some Brell's lore!

E:U ... at least the Euros wont get mad for once.
In time, the other gods noticed Veeshan's work, and often being petty and jealous, they too came upon Norrath, intent upon leaving their mark. Brell Serilis was first, and from his Plane of Underfoot, a dark realm of vast caves and endless tunnels, he quietly created a magical portal to a cavern deep in the belly of Norrath. Through this portal, the Duke of Underfoot seeded the depths of Norrath with all manners of creatures.
Caves and dungeon crawls anyone? /cry selos haha
Two things i noticed in the list I provided.
Everquest Worlds -- old working title in 2003 for EQ2? Abandoned due to its similarity to World of Warcraft also about to ship around the same time?
Everquest: The Demise of Aradune -- 2003 a little after the time McQuaid left SOE and Sigil was formed. SOE exit strategy expansion to sever the name Aradune from the product?
Ooh complex underground caves and dungeons, sounds fun. Bring back the complexity of sebilis
"Everquest Worlds" sound like a console title to me really.
So shortcut for that expansion will be: UnderFOot ? UFO.
FOOT!
un·der·foot
I think it is The Underfoot. I do not believe they need "the" in the title for trademarks. TU would be better than just U heh. E:U pronounced EWWWWW.
UFO

Sweet! Can't wait till fan faire where i am sure they will let us all know what this year holds.
Hopefully they'll do live podcasts again so I can hear them announce it for sure. If this really is the next expansion I can see a LOT of old players come back just for the lore. This is something EQ players have wanted for years!
So, the hole is about to get raped.... err, re-imagined so we can all easily zone into the underfoot?...

Depends. There was some great lore about the Underfoot in the Ocean of Tears book. The EQDevs have always said to treat the books as accurate lore unless something in-game trumps them.
The book mentioned an entrance to the Underfoot beneath Crushbone, and I think I remember mention of one beneath Neriak too (since it mentions a Dark Elf stronghold in the Underfoot).
You also have to remember that Gnolls and Dwarves worship Brell, and delve deep into the earth. Either or both races could uncover a portal.
So, the hole is about to get raped.... err, re-imagined so we can all easily zone into the underfoot?... Liveye (lvl 76 Wizard)PS- Don't get me wrong, if they continued along the path of the warrens and stonebrunt, removing a piece of wall so that we may continue along the path to a newly discovered zone, I would be all for it. The zone in for the Underfoot has been there for years so there's no need to destroy the entire zone just to let us go into it. There's always the option of a clicky ground object in PoK to zone into a new plane.
Hey look what's already been found! =)

LOL he beat me by 3 hours and it got moved to the SOE discussion forum so I missed it.
Something is wrong, people.....
The name is ONE word. For awhile now it's been 3 words. I think it's just a clever ruse....
GoD, OOW, DoN, DoD, TSS, PoR, TBS, SoF, SoD. Just sayin'.

1) Someone posted that articles arent required to be trademarked (a, an, the). I'm not sure about that myself, but it would add at least one word.
2) There's no law that the Devs and marketing team would have to use 3 words LOL
Buried. /sadface
Just call it Great Divide, so we can call it the GD expansion...
The UnderFoot
TUF
Its gonna be a tough expansion. Well I hope it is.
SoD EQ on very easy mode got me bored and I stopped playing EQ.
Maybe if TUF is TUF as it sounds I'll be back.
Mercs made game too easy, they need to find ways to force people to group together and not no 2 box 3box with merc the entire content.
Also they need to make raids harder, SoD raid wasnt too hard except for Showdown at Crystal Core, and it was VERY short, SoF 1/2 MMM and Crystallos is longer than all the SoD raids. They need to make raids harder so its not, oh we beat this raid, now we never lose on it again because we got it down, make raids hard so even when you do beat it, its still challenging.
They better make TUF long and hard raids, and have zones with a lot of trash it slows people down. Have T4 T5 T6 T7 raids. Make it so only VERY few guilds beat the expansion before the next one comes out.
I'm so sick of EQ getting easier and easier. Make end game group content zones full of mobs that SI and see IVU, dont make it easy mode, where if the group doesnt need a item they send tell to guild and some guildie gets it, make it so they have to actually be in the group or gotta fight/train there way to get something that rots. Mobs need to be faster in end game zones, only few classes should be able to outrun mobs. Make more duegons, SoD had hardly any duegons, mostly fighting in outside environment. Underfoot sounds like a duegon crawling so I'm pretty sure it will have some nice duegons. More mobs that eat your mana too like the anuek mindbenders, make more mobs that charm and such too, we have resist charm resist fear, resist this and that AAs for a reason so put em to good use so people actually get them over other stuff.
I'm looking forward to TUF, I think SoE may have stepped up there game this time, no more easymode, no more 3box with merc dominate all group content, and MORE things to look forward to while raiding because my guild wont have dominated the game in couple months.

not the name of the expansion though.. its Everquest: Underfoot
so by your reasoning it would be EUF which could be a acronym for Excellence Under Fire.
There are four word expansions in the series...i.e. Lost Dungeons of Norrath (LDoN). They haven't all been three words.
I am SO excited. I have wanted this FOREVER -- and you know, my character has an unhealthy fascination with the Underfoot, and it looks like I'll be able to do something with that!
This is SO SO SO exciting. THANK YOU, SOE!
Also, I hope they don't revamp the hole. I JUST learned my way around without maps.
Underfoot really is the only theme they could have given at this time to really energize the the base, subscribed and unsubscribed, to really get back into EQ and want to play again.
Its the one untold story that is universally well liked and wanted imo, something a very long time in coming. There also needs to be some connection to Thurgadin, it was a city devoted to the worship of Brell afterall.

Through a bit of internet sleuthing we've discovered that recently, Sony Online Entertainment decided to trademark two new titles, one each for EverQuest and EverQuest II. The trademarks in question took place on June 10th, 2009 and are EverQuest Underfoot, and EverQuest II Sentinel's Fate. While nothing is announced yet, there's a good chance these two titles are the names of each game's respective expansions.
So why would SOE do this? Well, they have the annual SOE Fanfaire coming up in a week, in which they'll no doubt continue their recent tradition of announcing expansions for their flagship MMO titles, so ensuring the trademark was in place prior to the announcement is always crucial.
EverQuest fans will no doubt recognize the Underfoot fairly quickly. It's an area that many wished would be introduced to the game early on in its lifetime; the realm of Brell Serilis, deity whom created the dwarves. Coming off its 10th anniversary and a new server ruleset, this would be the 16th expansion for the game.
On the other hand, what Sentinel's Fate will bring is questionable. Will this be the much-anticipated Velious expansion for EverQuest II, related to the dragons of the continent? Or will it continue the story laid out by The Shadow Odyssey?
Regardless, I think it's safe to say we'll hear these new expansions announced at the SOE Fanfaire during John Smedley's Community Address on Friday, June 26th at 7PM PDT. Stay tuned next week as we'll no doubt have more information not only on EverQuest and EverQuest II, but other titles shown at the Fanfaire as well!
There are multiple other posts about this in other forums.
An expansion for Dwarfs and Haflings! Remember the door behind the golems in "The Hole"? Did it not used to say something about "Underfoot" when you clicked on it back in the day?
It is said outside space and time an entity known only as the Nameless exists, and that this being created all that this there is and was and will be. It is also written in ancient texts that from his mind sprang not only the universe and its countless suns and worlds, but also a myriad of sentient, powerful, yet finmite creatures whome one such as a man, or elf, or dwarf, would call a god.
In aeons past came one of these gods upon the world of Norrath, Veeshan, Crystalline Dragon and ruler of the Plane of Sky, found this world pleasing and deposited her brood onto the continent of Velious. With one swipe of her mighty claws, Veeshan opened several great wounds upon the surface of Norrath, staking her claim to this promising new world. Dragons then walked the land and flew the skies, powerful beings of great intellect, wisdom, and strength. Thus began the Age of Scale.
In time the other gods noticed Veeshan's work. Being often petty and jealous beings, they too came upon Norrath, intent on leaving their mark. Brell Serilis was first, and from his Plane of Underfoot, a dark realm of vast caves and endless tunnels, he quietly created a magical portal to a cavern deep in the belly of Norrath. Through this portal, the Duke of Underfoot seeded the depths of Norrath with all manner of creatures. Brell then returned home, sealing his portal within a labeyrinthine chamber of mystical Living Stone.
And when the other gods came to Norrath, Brell Serilis approached each of them, and after some time convinced them to meet as one to discuss the fate of the world. The Great Mother, Tunare, and Prexus, The Oceanlord were in attendance, and Rallos Zek, The Warlord was also there, yet in mistrust kept his distance. Brell, carefully avoiding all queries as to the origins of his information, told of Veeshan's discovery of the new and potentially powerful world in which she had deposited her brood. Words befit of the King of Thieves poured forth from Brell's lips. He proposed that they accept an alliance of sorts, to which all save Rallos agreed, ignorant of the fact that Brell had already released some of his creations into the Underfoot of this new world. The planet that would be called Norrath was divided up between these beings of power for the purpose of keeping the Wurmqueen in check. Each would create a race of beings to watch over Norrath and keep a vigilant eye on the scemes of Dragonkind. Brell claimed the bowels of the planet and created the Dwarves, stout and strong, deep beneath the mountains of Norrath. In the abysmal depths of the oceans, Prexus left his children, the Kedge, heartly aquatic beings of great mental power and stamina. And on the surface of Norrath did Tunare create the Elves, creatures of limitless grace an beauty, and Rallos Zek the Giants, fierce and formidable beings, intent upon the defense of their lands. Thus began the Elder Age.
It was inevitable that such energies involved in seeding planets with life would attract even more of the gods, and it was the Elves who drew the unwanted attention of Innoruuk, Prince of Hate. In a decrepit tower overlooking the the dark decaying alleys of the Plane over which he ruled, Innoruuk waited, stoking the fire of his hate until it was a raging inferno. He cursed his fellow gods for not including him in their pact and vowed to make them regret such disrespect. From the halls of the Elves' fair city Takish-Hiz, the Price of Hate snatched away the first Elven King and Queen. In his ream of pain and anger he slowly tore them apart, physically and mentally, over the course of three hundred years. He then gathered the quivering remnants of these beings of light and rebuilt them into his own dark sadistic image, a twisted mockery of Tunare's noble children. In depositing the Teir'Dal, as Innoruuk's Dark Elven creations would come to be called, back into the Underfoot of Norrath, the seeds for the Price of Hate's final revenge were sown.
The Plane of Hate This next excerpt is long but covers the story of King Naythox and Queen Cristianos Thex. This was taken from the EQ PnP RPG supplement titled "The Plane of Hate". A special thanks to mk1anton in The Discipleship forums for taking the time to type this up and share it with the rest of us. Innoruuk, the God of Hate, was excluded from the initial creation of races upon the world of Norrath. Brell, God of the Underfoot, and the other gods involved in creating the elder races were too powerful for Innoruuk to oppose directly, even though his fury at these others burned hotter than the fires of Solusek Ro. Together, the gods Brell, Tunare, Prexus, and Rallos Zek watched with great satisfaction as their creations successfully defeated the dragons seeded by Veeshan eons before upon the world of Norrath. In accordance with their pre-arranged pact, the new gods divided the world into the various realms in which their creations would live. These “elder” races carved out kingdoms within their lands as their numbers grew. By defeating Veeshan’s brood, the younger gods had ensured themselves status as major deities among the dominant population of Norrath. Cunning Innoruuk writhed and plotted in his hatred for all of these powerful young divinities, and he soon formulated a plan to teach them all a lesson. He patiently watched the other gods’ fledgling races continue to prosper and grow until, finally, the path for his ascension— and his vengeance — became clear. Seduction of the Elves Of all the elder races, it was the elves who first came to dominate the first known continent, which was subsequently called Tunaria, in honor of the elven Goddess of Life. The king and queen of the elves, two perfect specimens created by Tunare’s own hands, were beloved by all elves for their beauty, kindness, and wisdom; each also possessed great power given them by their goddess. Ever did the two rulers wield their power sensibly, seeking always to maintain good relations with the other races, if possible. It also assisted them in their endeavors that these elves were as terrible in anger as they were beautiful, capable of unleashing frightening powers, a fact which had not at all gone unnoticed by the other races of Tunaria. Sensing that the time for his revenge was at hand, Innoruuk took the form of an elf and went to the elven capitol of Takish-Hiz, to observe the elves more closely. Among the elves, he learned of their two greatest weaknesses: their great lust for magical knowledge, and their arrogance toward all other races. These weaknesses he would leverage in his vengeance. The crown prince of the elven royal house Thex, a beautiful boy named Tearis, heard that a certain mysterious elf had a magical gift for him. With great anticipation, the boy came to Innoruuk, disguised as an elf, and received a wondrous helm of magical power. The helmet was beautifully fashioned and shed a brilliant light. As the boy felt it in his hands, he could sense power coursing through the precious device. Prince Tearis, having a strong dose of the typical elven weakness for all things magical, could not help but don the helmet. Innoruuk, however, had placed a potent curse upon the helm, which placed the boy under his thrall the moment the helm was worn: This boy was the offspring of the two finest elves created by Tunare, and, from the seed of their union, Innoruuk would sow his revenge by making this boy the king of a different kingdom altogether. Immediately, Innoruuk opened a gate to the Plane of Hate atop the highest tower of the royal palace in Takish-Hiz. The Prince of Hate and his new servant, the prince of the elves, were about to step in when the boy’s bodyguards intervened. The guards would not allow this strange elf to take the boy away, even though the boy appeared quite willing to go. King Naythox and Queen Cristianos Thex, who had immediately sensed the opening of the gate, also rushed to the tower with their own bodyguards, and arrived just moments after the boy’s guards. When the king and queen arrived, they saw their son’s guardians battling monstrous beings that had erupted forth from a fiery planar gate, while their son and a stranger — whom both monarchs instantly recognized as a being of great power, even if they could not perceive his identity — were trying unsuccessfully to run past the Koada’Dal and into the portal. Seeing the king’s and queen’s arrival and knowing that while they could not kill him, yet they held great power, Innoruuk quickly put a blade to the boy’s throat and commanded all present to halt or the boy would die. After a brief negotiation, it became clear the king and queen would not allow their son to be taken away from them, dead or alive. Innoruuk shrewdly proposed that they give themselves up to him instead, paying their own for the life of their son. The king and queen immediately swore an oath to do that very thing, and Innoruuk freed their son from the helm’s curse, flinging him back to his guards. The Prince of Hate then took on his true form, causing a shudder to run through the gathered elves, and passed through the gate to his home realm, knowing full well the king and queen were honor-bound to follow even into Hate itself. The boy cried forlornly to his parents to stay, but his Koada’Dal guards knew that the oath of the king and queen, once given, was never broken; in tears, they held back the boy as the king and queen left behind their armor, weapons, and other valuables in a pile. Looking lovingly upon their loyal guards and their loving son, the monarchs passed through the flaming portal into the Plane of Hate. Once the king and queen passed through the gate, its colors flashed briefly and then changed color. None who tried to follow their sovereigns through the portal — and many did so — could follow. To this day, some believe the fire of that gate still burns atop the remains of the highest tower of the royal palace in the Oasis of Marr, a sad reminder of the beginning of the decline of the elves. Overcome with despair, guilt, and hatred, the young King Tearis Thex ordered his wizards and druids to find some means by which to open a gate to the Plane of Hate for a rescue mission. The elves were proficient in the magical arts, though, none possessed knowledge of any method of planar travel to Innoruuk’s realm. Their lore, however, told them that the shissar, a race of snake people with a reputation as fierce warriors and potent spellcasters, had in the past constructed monuments that enabled planar travel in various places around Norrath; the shissar, who were at that time on only slightly unfriendly terms with the elves, were believed to possess such knowledge. The elves managed to secure the aid of the shissar in exchange for the shissar having full access to any discoveries made during the research of the elven scholars. Still, more than two centuries passed — though to the long-lived elves and the immortal shissar, such a period was but a frustrating sojourn — before the Keepers of the Art, with the knowledge and the Fulligran’s soulstones given them by the shissar, discovered a way to transport a handful of beings to the Plane of Hate. The elves assembled the foremost masters of every spellcasting guild and fighting profession to assault the home plane of Innoruuk, where they intended to punish the Prince of Hate and his minions. If their kidnapped king and queen still lived, they would rescue them, although by now they harbored no such faint hopes. When enough of the elite elves had gathered, the mightiest wizards among them spoke the appropriate words and performed the proper gestures, and the assembled force vanished through flashing gates.
Back before LDON was announced there was a SOE trademark for everquest: the kingdom of serilis so everyone thought that was going to be the next expansion. then later there was this interactive SOE site that had these runes appear on a grid in your web browser. clicking different runes made different sounds, and if you clicked them in a certain sequence they would pronounce all the syllables in "king-dom of ser-il-is" and by doing so a giant WRONG message would pop up on screen and a sound clip of the french guy from monty python's holy grail would play.

I read it and loved it! I want more...
That would rule if the next expanison they freaking finished what they started with Underfoot... The whole door to underfoot was a huge thing back when it came out and speculation on what would happen when it went live was all over.. then they never did it.. The underbelly of Norrath has been so left out.. You know those dwarves have mined way down into the bowles of Norrath and would love to see a completly dungeon crawl style expansion .. that woudl be fun..
I hope we have the choice to kill the dorfs and not run errands for the ugly midgets.
I thought the entrance was behind the locked stone dor in The Hole.
