I was looking at the description of gravitas and I'm a bit confused. It cannot be cast on someone who it has recently been cast on...... so how long ago is recently? Say I throw it on my healer and it expires. When can I cast it again?

2 minutes from the time you cast it.

So I cast the spell, it refreshes in 2 minutes, and I can cast it on the same person again? So......... where does the cannot be cast if you've had it recently come in??

you cast it, it last 30 seconds, with a 30 second recast, and has a two minute immunity.  so, essentially, you can cast it on four healers within that two minutes and start again on the first healer - that's where it cannot be cast on the same person recently.

also, the font you have chosen is extremely hard on the eyes and almost made me not want to answer this question.

I've been lvl 80 for at least 2 months now and I'm still not sure how to use this spell.   How are you other dirges using it?  Do you cast it on your group's healer everytime its up/available?  Or just for a nasty fight?  What about in a raid?  I'm wondering how beneficial it really is.

I have a macro that casts it on the main healer in my group, so I don't have to switch targets. In groups I usually only use it in tough fights, as it is too hard too use regularly due to the annoying immunity. In raids I sometimes make multiple macros for various healers and use it more often. Beats always switching to a healer and back to the mob/MA.

It's not a great spell. Many classes get better level 80 spells but I think there are worse spells.

make one macro,

put 4x gravitas in it

in every spell write the name of a healer in the target area...voila, constant rotation of the buff on 4 healers with one button, never loosing target.

Gravitas spell rocks, and surely helps the healers.  I use it frequently in many different situations.  Obviously I use it during raiding, and with the Profit UI, there is a quick macro button to hit any healer in the raid with it without switching targets.  In groups, I make macro's to each of the healers with a /tell to them, so they know its on, so they can cast that ward or whatever.  I also put it in a macro for using my dirge heal, so the first thing the macro does is try to cast gravitas on me, then cast the dirge heal on the target.  Same thing for my rezzes as well.  It has tons of uses.  If you need some more macro idea's, let me know, I would be glad to share...

So, it sounds like I have a few macros to make SMILEY.   I never thought of using this spell on myself. Thanks all for the response and ideas SMILEY

Doh! Good idea. I'm going to do that.

Personally I'm not a fan of /tell /gsay makros for small things like this. People spam too much completely irrelevant information in macros already. Telling a healer you've just buffed him for a few seconds, will most likely only make him waste his spells because he feels compelled to take advantage of the buff (or he continues like before and all your /tell does, is to annoy him). If he needs to heal he should already be doing it, if he doesn't have to, why push him?

/gsay /tell macros are good for important things, like rezzes (so you don't get 4-5 people to rezz one person and waste mana) or pulls for example. But I really dislike all those "completely irrelevant and minor short term buff #24564" spam messages. Especially if some guy has a macro for *snap* EACH AND EVERY FREAKING SPELL and he doesn't just press the button once. Oh no sir. HE SPAMS THE FREAKING BUTTON 2-4 TIMES WHENEVER HE USES IT! ALL THROUGHT THE INSTANCE OR RAID! ... Sorry, that had to get out. It just happens too often lately SMILEY. With my healer I sometimes literally drown in macro spam.

Hmmm, I have never really noticed to be honest, (on the power issue).  I don't seem to every have power issues except during those longer fights like overking and such.  I pretty much try to get it on a healer, or even a utility class whenever possible.  It works for power regen classes too, like power feeds from coercers and such...  so many uses...

Thanks all for the great replies. It did seem like a pretty important spell to me (( of course all our songs are important for one reason or another SMILEY  )) and I'm grateful for the macro ideas.

Hell... I probably have the most complicated system for Gravitas that there is

I have a timer based on a macro to a channel I use only for myself and depending on the %t it creates a 2 minute timer in ACT for each of the healers we raid with

That way I can choose the healer based on the situation and use the raid window to cast it on the appropriate healer.

Really like your system though Firza!

Arzoth from Chaotic Legion on the Kithicor server has written a guide that is almost identical to the method I've been using on EQ2Flames... you guys here really should go check it out. Between Firza's method and that one I think its pretty much set the standard for the best ways for Gravitas to be used!
