Hey there,
I've been having this problem lately, too. I've been thinking... Has anyone tried reformating their comp? I know it's a longshot, however, I AM paying for a game I can't play and drastic measures must be taken. I'm going partition my hard drive and 'start from scratch' so to speak.
I figure there couldn't be any harm in trying, right?
EDIT: And just so everyone knows, my computer is NOT faulty. It can play every other game under the sun perfect. Indeed, three nights ago it could play Everquest 2 in high quality settings with minimal lag.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to know if anyone might guess why I only get this out of memory error when I try to launch TEST server (hit play, get "out of memory" then subsequent C++ error). I can play EQ2 live servers no problem. I have never had this error on live, and only have been getting it since getting a new computer on TEST.
I realize there could be a wide range of technical issues, but I have done the obvious (re-create TestServer files/directory, deleted INIs, reloaded drivers, Direct X, reset page file, etc) and I am mostly trying to figure out why I only get this when I hit the PLAY button on the TEST server login screen when I can run the normal servers with no problems.
Thanks for any input.
I just bought the game yesterday. I have never been beyond the play button.
Application ran out of memory requesting 1311947712 bytes
2gigs of ram here.
Im saddened to see this thread is over a year old. THis problem has been a plauge that has not been figured out.
Lotro ran very well at max settings.
*UPDATE*
After a full uninstall, reinstall, and patch download, I am able to enter the game now! I also messed with pumping up my pagefile memory and swapped positions of my Ram sticks(not sure if those did anything).
Anyways, Im in, and the game so far is very slick.
ok this error has been around for over a year yet we still cant fix it?
I crash on a regular basis no zone is specifically terrible but it happens to me grouped or solo. its truely a gamebreaker. I cant join groups due to frequent crashes. I am so frustrated. I recently came back to EQ2 and this is still an issue after a year ? its almost inconceiveable?
Please Devs fix this issue its time !! i know you (NEED) to get out that next BIG expansion but god how many ppl suffer with this known bug for over a YEAR!!
Fix the LEAK!! I suggest using bondo or duct tape that stuff fixes everything
Bova the Gnome
I have had this problem on 3 different rigs now, I get both memory errors frequently, but the E_OUTOFMEMORY error more often than the other. Both are related, of that I am sure. This game has a huge memory leak, and it's a damn shame they still can't fix it. You could have 1gb of ram or 4gb of ram and still get the error. Vista did not fix it, as many people predicted it would. Instead, it made it worse.
Now that this is SOE's main MMO, why not fix this gamebreaker of a bug?
Chances are, I will still be here in 6 months, a year, even longer, still posting about this error, just like all of you.
ive had this problem for like 3 weeks now and i dont know what to do still.... i checked the display and it said my memory approx. total or wuteva is 128 so it shud be good any suggestions please cuz i really would liek to get on.... it throws me off right as it supposed to stop loading the zone and start up then bang it kicks me off....
Word. I can't even get into game with this stupid error. It's requesting 1.6 gb in memeory, and then says I only have 1.1 gb available. I have 1.5 gb in my machine and never had any trouble running the game before 2 months ago, when I took a break. Tried logging in 2 weeks ago and get this message each time I try to log in.
The crazy thing is I can play on Test just fine.....
Add me to the long list of people getting the Out of Memory Error Msg from Hell. Still no word from Sony as far as I can find. Insane patch times for new players... error messages out the wazoo.
I love this game but EQII is becoming too high maintenance. I purchased LotR Online Friday and played it all weekend without a problem. If Sony wants to compete with WoW and LotR Online, they need to get it together.
/PAE /3GB + 8800 GTX with 768M = bad idea and does not have a nil impact.
This would force it to load all hardware address ranges above 3G, and to do to that with the 768M GTX + other cards you can run into a lot of of issues. EQ2 definitely does not support large address aware in it's header as I have pointed out before, but could be easily added to address some of us that run much larger configurations.
Vista + 2560x1600 + balanced settings = over 2G almost instantly and I can't play at 2560x1600 under vista unless I use editbin to add the large address aware bit myself, of course I have to bypass the patcher at that point and it's a pain, I'm going back to XP64 soon if I can't get a better workaround. Unfortunately I was running Vista so that the wife could upgrade as she likes how it looks, but then toontown doesn't work on vista very well either so she's not interested.

/3GB does work for the System segment (it shrinks the space from 2 GB to 1 GB), but it does not allow the game access to the full 3 GB memory space that the /3GB flag also includes. I know that's a little confusing, but believe me, it works out The performance impacts of the boot.ini flag are nearly nil, as Ruab said.
