I don't know what I'm doing to cause this problem, but when I am in a group or even worse, when I am in a raid my pet, on occasion, will just seemingly take off on it's own.

For instance, last weekend we were raiding MMIS. Preparing to take down the Tacticians Armorer. While the MT layed out his plan of attack, my Mage pet aggro-ed a mob in another room and before I even knew it had happened I was face down on the floor. Looking for footprints. Dead as a door knob. You get the picture.

After all the usual dirisive remarks had been made by the MT (they seem to view that as a part of their job description) I was resurrected and called up my Mage pet again.

I had been targeted on the MA, did not hit the attack button or do anything else that I am aware of to cause my pet to attack something in the other room. I was in crawl/walk mode so I didn't suddenly run into the other room. I just died right where I had been standing while listening to the MT discuss the strategy we would be using

This is not a first. This has happened to me with both my Mage and Earth pets. I rarely use my Scout pet, but I have to assume it would happen with that pet as well. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing to cause this?

Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would start by turning off the protect me and protect self on the pet.

Yup, that sounds like exactly what needs to be done.

Haven't raided MMIS enough to know the quirks of the zone, but as a general rule, you want your mage pet NOT to protect you or protect self. That will get you killed very often, and sometime even wipe the raid. Not a good way to have happy guildmates.

Summon your firepet, right-click it, and change his pet options. Theses options will always persist, so you will never forget to re-set them at the next summonning. You can set different pet options (and names) for each of your pets, even the deity one (auto-hide FTW). Just summon the pet and change the options.

Pretty much above posters have covered your problem.also if your tab targeting added with lag you may be giving delayed attack commands to the pet.

Here is link to my guide on eq2 flames some info here may help you.

Thank you all for posting this advice. I will reset my pet options. I feel confident that your advise has resolved the issue.

And thanks for the link!

Good hunting!
