This isn't meant to be a post drowning in negativity, but more concern based, as i've been noticing something happening since the Station Marketplace introduced the new server transfer tokens.
Stuck at Recieving Zone Info...
Pings to the servers registering at 850 sometimes during peak hours...
Unable to login characters and timeouts during peak hours logging into AB...
AB has always had problems with lag and what not. Allowing open transfers to the server would probably just compound this issue, wouldn't it? It's already showing itself, somewhat... i'm only concerned that as more and more people seek "Higher populated" servers, they're immidiately going to think "Highest populated" is the best choice and make things far worse.
Is this being considered with the tokens? I'm not saying block everyone from coming to AB. I'm just hoping that as the server takes on more load, something might be done about it from a hardware standpoint so that we don't see signs that are already somewhat showing up continue to get worse.
Well I agree with your thoughts on this. AB server has a huge population compared to the other servers. The other problem that exists this week is a new lore item has been introduced into the game. AB has a huge RP community. Every one and their mother was after this book. I know i was!!!
I agree though IF open transfer is allowed to AB it will probly slow things down. On the flip side though that could add more people into the game to do my quests and instances. *shrugs*
I would defently take the vote for keeping our server out of the Transfer system till we drop some people from the population.
I don't have a stake in this personally, but it does seem like a lot of the major EQ2 bloggers are all returning to AB with the transfers. This alone isn't going to do much to the server population of AB except to the extent that any blog readers roll on that server because that's where everyone is writing from. However, it does seem like a bit of a loss for the servers that people are transferring away from.
AB's always been bad, it has gotten notably worse in the last week though.
It was to the point last night where I was "queued" like five or six spells into my rotation at times (i.e. spells dim when I click them but they do not actually cast until like five seconds later). This seriously just drains the enjoyment right out of the game.
Might I suggest free server transfers off AB or some kind of gimmick to entice people to leave this server?
Typical - I have a toon on AB that I want to bring over to the rest of my tribe on Runnyeye - only to find the token wont let you transfer from US to UK servers.
Awesome.
On Runnyeye by the way it took me over 5 minutes to zone to Lavastorm cos it was stuck on "Receiving Zone Info" for so long. Plus the broker lag was around 1 to 2 minutes last night.
Me and my gf are playing on Antonia Bayle for a good while now and I just transfered my old toon to AB so I had access to my old /CLAIM items again and my build up plat along the years I spend on Splitpaw.
But AB seems to have some serious issues for sure. And these have gotten considerably worse since last Tuesday's maintainance!
I've seen guild members being kicked en masse to Char select at least once/twice a night. Especially in Guild Halls.
Seriously, pings in Guild Halls are often peaking to over 800ms!
So I don't know what they have done last Tuesday. If it's due to mass transfers from new players or not.
But it sertainly got a hell lot worse since then.
Jer
So one answer would be for folks to start coming to Lucan D'Lere. We're very laid back, there's plenty of room, and although our population is lower than AB, we still have plenty of folks to play with. /wink
there are no open transfers to AB . You pay your $25 to transfer just like for any other server.
And high population servers will have high population issues which you will need to live with or move to a lower population server.

There are no high population issues in EverQuest 2. Only Hardware issues that need to be dealed with.
EverQuest 2 got instancing for a reason. And I call 10-12 people in a guild hall hardly overpopulated and waranting several mass disconnects a night.
It doesn't only happen on AB... when I played on Splitpaw, we had these issues now and then too. And Splitpaw is sertainly not high populated.
It sounds to me there is more insentive to transfer off of AB than there is insentive to transfer to it.
There are several other servers with a very active population without being lagged to hell.
I suggest we have Noaani approve oir dosapprove all server transfers to and off of AB. That way they will be looked at for dumbing down considerations. This should slow down the transfers and keep the potential for additional lag at a minimum. (Sorry, I could not resist).

Unfortunately a lot of people don't realize how bad lag really is on AB until they hunt in highly populated zones or get to start raiding in instances that see a lot of traffic, so a lot of people still start on our server just to make sure they can find groups. When people come back to the game or start for the first time, they're a lot more worried about finding people to play with than how laggy it might be at the high end, so I think it's kind of a self-perpetuating problem at this point just due to being the highest pop server. The lag can be really bad when raiding. Contesteds are definitely the worst (hi to you 8 second pauses between casts), but even instances lag pretty badly a lot of the time.

I had a toon on AB and the Kunark expansion in '07 is what encouraged me to get the heck off the server. Well, that and the fact that I had my apartment in the Blood Haze, and I felt like I needed a shower everytime I walked past a group of roleplayers there. Don't know how it is now, but that place used to be "cyber central" in Freeport.
Atan's right though, I see it as an incentive for people to get the heck out of that asylum, not have more join in.

Show me a thread that mentioned AB as a populated server that doesn't also strongly discourage it due to its high lag.
I'm curious how people are finding AB for these reasons without being fully aware of the problems with it.
LDL, Unrest, Crushbone, all lively with no lag.
The fohguild forums mention EQ2 on occasion and invariably when they do the suggestion of AB pops up as the highest population server, with little warnings of the lag that goes with it. Most people just don't care about that, not if they're not sure they'll get to the endgame anyway.
