To be honest, this took me by surprise a bit, in a good way.
So, I was wondering what you all think about the possibility of PlanetSide next? What would you really like to see in the game and what would you like to see done? I know you can all write a book on this and I'm more than happy to read them so feel free to write and discuss it as much as you like, it's a good thing, and we're all very passionate about seeing another addition to the PlanetSide saga.
The direction the game takes will be made by a poll of the entire player base.
majority (plasma spammers, thumper spammers, reaver spammers, NC HackMAX users, RUS, CN, BFR whores) rules in favor of ruining the game
For those against BFRs, Smed has said himself:
It's interesting how many comments we get about BFR's. Well you can stop sending the "please don't put BFR's in PS Next" emails. They aren't in there.

i wasnt speaking against BFRs directly, just the user demographic majority.
Are they really going to call it "Planetside Next" why not just Planetside 2 :l?

Got any ideas?
What's wrong with the sanctuary concept? I like it. Smed says there's not enough focus on getting straight to the action. Guess what? If you want instant action, there's a button you can use in the main panel, though I've forgotten what it's called. The sanctuary concept doesn't work BECAUSE there's no players in the game, not the other way around. Sanctuaries are a waste of time in PS with it's current pops because it's eerily silent. It's supposed to be a safehaven to regroup, get organised, meet empire members, look for outfits/squads etc. When I jonied PS, I expected to see hundreds of people in the Sanctuaries just hanging around, prepairing for another battle or to open up a secondary etc. And it probably would have happened that way if there was enough pops for that kind of situation. I say we just need to make the concept more thorough. We need to come up with new uses for the Sanctuary. Remember, it's literally the one and only base of an entire empire. There should be places where stappled, outfit advertisements can be placed, real-time billboards updating the fight status, seamless-map shooting ranges so that the gun noises liven things up a bit, etc etc. It needs to be an active organic place to be where the heart of the tactical-side of fighting occurs. /tex
Now i'm gonna be really sad and point out one thing Smed says: "They aren't in there". He doesn't say "they won't be in there" he says they aren't. Which means that planetside 2 might be in development already. That or he should write his blogs better damn him .
That's kind of the working title, what studios use prior to an official release title of a movie, or game in this case.

Get your hands on some of the surveys. There were plenty of books written in the final comments box.

I personally haven't seen the surveys yet but I would enjoy reading what you all have said.
Think it’s just because they haven’t officially announced it yet, so they are just referring it to as ‘what ever comes next’.
There are five things I would like from PlanetSide 2 with the fith one being the most important:
Customisation
When there are loads of people about you want to stand out from the crowd. Things like implants and specialisation help this, as well as modifiable vehicles and weapons.
More intense fighting
I notice this is something SOE have realised PlanetSide 1 lacked. The maps were a bit too big when you consider how many were on the server as well as the 3 ways that neutralised the fight. Also on a general note it's better if things recharge over time - repairing things is boring and slows the fight.
One massive world
I don’t know what can be done with technology (and servers) now but something that I think would be great would be one massive world with climates and weather that moves around the map. So rarther than have one snowy map, one desert map, one grass map it could all blend in (like the real world). It would be great as it would reduce the 3 ways greatly, that slow the fight down in PlanetSide 1. The catch to this though is that if populations were to get low the fight might become too spread out and shadow hacking could become an issue.
Make vehicle’s power reflect the number of people in them
Seeing as it’s going to be massively multiplayer it seems foolish to balance the game so that going around in one man vehicles is more effective than teaming up in a bigger vehicles with several people in it. Getting is a galaxy gunship with a team and spraying out lead is what MMOFPS should be about and less getting in one man vehicles and picking off single targets because that’s the way the game’s balance causes you to play.
Less Anti-Air and Air Cavalry
I think the idea of someone standing in an AA MAX and just shooting at air cavalry all the time is boring and shallow. In PlanetSide it’s a requirement for someone to fill this role and for both the AA and the Air cavalry it’s boring to fight with and against. At the moment air cavalry beats most things that are not AA and AA beats air cavalry easily. It would be better if AA was not so effective against air cavalry, but more effective against other targets – so more rounded rather than a specific use. To balance this air cavalry would not be so effective against other targets so most things could do hold their own against air cavalry. So to summarise the last paragraph – less paper/scissors/stones, when it comes to air cavalry and more blended in so AA is not needed as much.
i hope those NIC guys are banned or heavily nerfed in alpha of PS2 so we dont have to read the drivel they come out with.
I'm not really bothered about what the game is like as long as the elements of planetside is there (large scale fights and the constant world) what I would like to see is a good dev team put together and make sure they stick to the foundations of the game when adding content.
More emphasis on teamwork instead of flail/bfr soloing, and thumper/plasma/radiator/maelstrom/rocklet/max spamming to get kills. Basically remove everything that you can spam to get easy kills.
Briefly and forgetting a load of stuff:
No BFRs - smaller walkers might be OK but generally I think they d ck up infantry combat. Anyone who liked BFRs at launch doesn't get an opinion. Or the vote if I had my way.
More grunt gameplay - and by this I don't mean just the 1-5 metres stuff. Honestly this is the fun stuff.
| - More varied maps - Big lack of hard cover for grunts. More trees, trenches, bunkers, etc. I like the deployable stuff.
No towers. Towers are singularities of pure concentrated lame.
No MAXes. Find another solution to this. MAXes are ruddy horrible.
More emphasis on outfits - outfit-wide customisation*, outfit merits, outfit certs
|- Modular vehicles
Better group transport
No one-man armies - I don't think it needs full blown class system but I definitely miss people having to make choices on their character build
|- Per map / Per squad / Per outfit limits on vehicles << Not doing this holds joint first place on "single worst decision the original team made" along with making one empire the shotgun empire. Most of the big vehicle balancing issues stem from this.
|- No 1-man vehicles - terrible for teamplay and grunt gameplay.
No interlink - Interlink is lame in a can. I wouldn't mind a more in depth model of sensors and sentries but it should come with countermeasures.
No 3pv, audio amp. In return for this, lean button and better locational audio. PS features more camping than an infinite number of Kenneth Williams saying an infinite number of ooh matrons.
* I'd like it if it was immediately obvious who an outfit was and what they did from looking at their dudes / vehicles.
On the other hand I thought everyone playing liek d cks to get merits was a shame so do this stuff at the outfit level.
