Maximise your experience gain

It is possible to obtain a "Flush with Sucess" buff from an Entertainer.  This buff grants you up to a 15% increase in all Experience and Galactic Civil War Point gain.  Ask an Entertainer for an "XP Buff", then watch or listen to them until the buff is at maximum duration.  Dont forget to tip!!!

Quests

Quest Experience is relatively new in SWG, previously players would repeat missions from mission terminals to gain experience, often in large groups of players.  Should you wish to gain experience via questing, the following guides will assist you.

While Questing you also gain experience by killing the NPC's (Non Player Characters) and Creatures in the quest locations.

Mission Terminals and Dynamic Spawn (Grinding)

The other option available to players wishing to gain experience is to kill MObs (Moblie Objects, the term for all NPC's and creatures).  MObs with a high combat level yield more experience when killed.

Some MObs have ranged attacks as well as melee attacks, and can be considerably more difficult to kill, also some MObs are "social", which means that nearby MObs of the same type will assist them in combat.  If you are looking for more information on the types of MObs out there in the galaxy, take a look at SWGCreatures.

All MObs have a "consider" colour.  Blue, white, yellow or red "con" MObs will give you good XP.  Purple MObs present a real challenge.

Your easiest XP gain will come from normal MObs, rather than any Elite or Boss MObs, signified by white or gold brackets around their health bar as these are considerably stronger.

Normal MObs have a standard health and action bar.

Elite MObs are signified by silver brackets around their health bar.

Boss MObs are signified by gold brackets around their health bar.

You will experience increased chance of 96% damage reduction (Glancing Blow) when attacking MObs significantly above your combat level, and you will only receive 1 XP for a MOb 19 levels lower than you.

In summary, optimal XP gain comes from MObs that:

  • Are not "elite" or "boss".
  • Are within 10 combat levels of your combat level.

You can gain XP faster in a group of players that are the same combat level as you.  See the section on Grouping below.

Dynamic Spawn

Have a look at the "Star Wars Galaxies - A Hunters Maps".  These maps show what combat level of MObs spawn in which areas of each planet.

Note : The Hunters Maps are out of date, for any areas that are labelled as having MObs up to cl80, MObs in this area will be up to cl90 or cl92.

As the spawn of MObs in these areas are constantly changing, they are known as dynamic spawns.

As of Publish 6.8, level ranges for dynamic spawns have been altered.

  • Tatooine 1-30.
  • Naboo, Corelia 20-40
  • Rori, Talus 40-60
  • Dantooine, Lok 50-70
  • Yavin, Endor 70-90
  • Dathomir 80-90

Mission Terminals

Mission Terminal are found all over the galaxy, you can take two destroy missions at a time.  Destroy missions will either be creatures or NPCs.  Creature destroy missions have more MObs per mission than NPC missions.

  • On completeing a destroy mission, all combat classes receive a "Compnor Bonus" experience reward that is 10% of the experience needed to reach the next level up, this works until you hit combat level 70, from combat 70 to 79 this bonus is reduced to 6.66% and from level 80 to 90 the bonus is reduced to 5%.  This reward may be earned 10 times per day.  The day resets at 12pm PDT.

  • Credit rewards for missions may be earned for full payout 15 times per day. The day resets at 12pm PDT. After that, credit rewards are paid out based on a diminishing returns scale.

  • Experience and credit rewards for missions scale payouts based on player level compared to mission level.  If the group completes a mission that is more than 15 levels above or 15 levels below your own combat level then you will receive half or less of the "Compnor Experience Bonus" and credit payout.

The following table shows information that you may find useful when levelling up, incuding how much XP you need to level up, what the Quest XP cap is at each level, what Compnor bonus you will get per level, how much XP you get at each level for a MOb that is the same CL as you and how many same CL MObs you would have to kill to level up by only killing MObs.

Putting this all into practice

So, now that we know all this, what's the best way to level up?

It depends on what you find most fun, but a good way is to start off by getting an Entertainer XP buff and getting your daily limit of ten compnor bonuses by running ten destroy missions, it's a good idea to get the missions from a terminal in an area that has blue and yellow Con dynamic spawn that you can kill on travels to and from missions, so if you were cl65 for instance, a player town on Lok would be good.

Top tip: Compnor bonuses are also awarded on completing factional destroy missions, and you can gain Galactic Civil War points from the MObs at these missions too!

Once you have done your ten missions for the day, have a look at what quests are available for your level, check the guides above and see if any that are around your level take your fancy.

The most fun comes when grouped with other players, details on that follow.

Grouping

Grouping with other players with a similar combat level to yours will allow you to gain XP faster.

Due to the way that group XP is calculated, it is important to keep the group members combat levels within 10 levels of each other.

Use the improved search functionality in the Community window to find players that are a similar level to you, send them all a tell and ask if they'd like to group for XP and fun!  Then just arrange to meet in a location of your choice to run misions from together.

To maximise your groups XP gain, make sure your group is fighting MObs with high combat levels, the higher the MObs combat level relative to your groups level, the more XP you all get!  Go for white, yellow or red con MObs.  Purple Con MObs will have a high chance of Trivial Hit for you and your group member so should be avoided.

Factors in group XP gain

  • Group combat level
  • Base XP
  • Size of group

Group combat level

All players in a group gain experience relative to the Combat Level of the player in the group with the highest Combat Level.

For instance, If you are CL50 and you group with a CL90, you will have to kill MObs over CL71 to gain XP.  You will not gain any XP for killing CL50 MObs.

Base XP

As soon as you group with another player, your experience gain is based on your Base XP, which is determined by your combat level.  See the "XP for same CL MOb" column in the table above for info.

You will notice that MObs of the same level as the person in the group who has the highest combat level now Con white to you.  Killing these MObs when grouped will award you the same XP that you would get for a white Con Mob of your own level when ungrouped, minus a small percentage of the XP as described below.

Warning: Even though high level MObs now Con white to you, the Trivial Hit chance modifier that gives you 96% damage reduction against MObs 15 combat levels above your level is still in effect.  I am trying to get this fixed so that it is based off of the highest level player in the group.

Note: MOBs of your own combat level may Con grey to you when you group with a high level player, you will not get any XP from these while grouped, make sure you go for blue Con Mobs or above.

Size of group

The bigger your group, the less XP you will get for each kill (Quest XP and COMPNOR XP is not effected).

This is more than made up for by the massive increase in the speed at which kills are achieved thanks to a larger group.

You will find that a full group running creature destory missions together for COMPNOR XP will receive more XP over time from the kills than from the COMPNOR payouts.  Just make sure everyone gets at least one hit on each creature that spawns.

Groupsize      % of XP per kill
1                    100%
2                    100%
3                    93%
4                    85%
5                    80%
6                    77%
7                    75%
8                    73%

I just want to expand a little on some of what you say here Badger.

Notice the right hand column. With a group of 8 you can currently receive almost 400% of the creatures XP value even though it's taking 1/8th the time to kill the same creature.

As an example. lets say it takes 8 seconds to kill a creature that gives 1000XP when solo.  Over the course of a minute this would give 7500XP assuming non-stop killing 1 at a time. A group of 8  all the same level against the same creatures would take 1 second per kill and each person would receive 29,400 XP per minute.

On the otherhand if a high lvl group offers to kill a lvl 80 mob and a few low lvls remain standing back ungrouped and allow their pets to attack the mobs they recieve 1450 xp per kill making this the ultimate way to grind.

Low lvl gets a pet and lets high lvl group aggro and kill mob while the low lvl remains ungrouped letting the beast attack each spawn at least 1 time for the full beast and toon xp.SMILEY

Yes I've seen this, I'm not sure if this is intended though.

Badger you may want to edit your information on space gained combat xp to note that it only applies to combat professions. (Not Entertainers or Traders.)

Well I assume that because the low lvl beastmaster has to let his pet attack each spawn to get xp, and the pet is set up to get a limited amount not based on lvls, the player is due an amount of xp based on the lvl of the spawn his beast is fighting. This is working as intended.

The risk of a low lvl toon hanging with a high lvl group and letting his high lvl friends hopefully aggro all spawns is a risk rewarded by a very nice xp bonus per kill if he  and his beast live.

Remember the player can not help his beast,or he gets no xp for the kill,so you just stand their unable to help.

Seems that this is not only working as inteneded, but would really mess up the beast/toon lvling system if changed. Its not easy to keep a low level toon and beast alive and attacking amidst spawns that kill you in one hit.

I would think the experience bonus legitimate and worth it if you come out of the fight alive. according to the beast leveling information ive read thru, The beast gets xp for all creatures attacked wether a majority of damage is done or not,the player gets xp and a bonus to the xp for letting the beast fight without interfering offensively.

This means the xp recieved by both is legitimate based on the current beast lvling system.

So this xp bonus is based on player "not" helping his beast fight or being grouped with high lvls. And is relevant to the lvl of the spawn you are taking on.

I checked with GreyPawn and he believed it was intended, guess I'll grab a cheap pet and get someone to kill some CL90 MObs for me.

Should be, I did an update the other day to include the new Glancing Blow chance modifier in PvE.
