Star Wars Galaxies: Game Play Top 5 Bugs and Issues List

Updated as of September 5th, 2008

The following list is compiled to the best of my ability with all the information I could gather from many PMs, hundreds of threads, and a lot of in-game discussions. This list will be updated with every release so that nothing is left on the list once taken care of. The top bugs and issues are not limited to this list, but these are the Top 5 that I have received from the community. These are in no particular order. Thank you.

  • No-Trade Inconsistencies
    1. There are many cases where items are tagged with No-Trade that the community feels should be reconsidered. Items such as Publish, Event and Anniversary Rewards have justifiable reasons to be No-Trade. However, many feel items such as Jedi Robes, Loot Card Rewards, Chu-Gon Dar Cube Schematics and others to have the No-Trade restriction relaxed. Future items that are added to the game are asked to have fewer restrictions, unless they are meant to be earned.
    2. Bio-link is a good alternative to No-Trade for items such as weapons, armor, buff items, etc. and should be explored more before marking them with No-Trade.
    3. It has also been suggested to have an option to trade No-Trade items between characters on a single account. No account is to be shared by other persons, so trading a No-Trade item to a character on the same is requested.
  • Server Population
    1. With the recent news that Dotanuki posted regarding being close to releasing information, the issues are obviously well known. The community is very passionate about this problem and have discussed a number of possibilities they would like to see such as simply merging servers, adding the option to group with people from different servers to run instances, incorporating instance PVP zones people from all servers can join, etc. The community is very eager to hear this news.
  • Loot Drop Rates
    1. This is an ongoing battle and players are feeling quite frustrated by the low drop rates they are experiencing. As stated by the development team, some of the collection pieces are being monitored to determine how often they are being looted. I have heard from many members of the community that they would like to see either a food type added that increases to odds of looting the rarer items from mobs, or possibly incorporating the Luck attribute to play a role in looting the rarer items.
  • Targeting
    1. An ongoing problem that is extremely frustrating. The simple Target Out command will often target something way in the distance that is no where near the relative position of your previous target. Another problem occurs when trying to target enemies that were previously cloaked. Once they come out of stealth, hitting Target Out will cycle through everything beyond the previously cloaked player location.
    2. The hit box on many large creatures is causing problem while trying to loot them as the persistent message stating you are out of range will trigger until you find the right spot on the target
    3. Another targeting issue associated with looting is when the enemy corpse is on a slope, players occasionally receive a message that they are out of range no matter where they stand.
  • Farming
    1. A lot of AFK farming by legit players is because of the need for mass amounts of junk loot. There have been numerous requests from players to have the Junk Dealers sell junk loot to players at various prices so the need for AFK farming is diminished. The Junk Dealers are pretty outdated in terms of credit offers, and they also buy extremely rare and powerful weapons at an extremely low price, which many players feel shouldn't even show up on the vendors in the first place.
    2. Those that are farming locations for credits can run a /loot macro and it will extract the credits and despawn the corpse, even when the items on the corpse have not been extracted if the player has a full inventory. This allows those camping instant respawn locations to farm credits at a very rapid pace (This also has a bad repercussion in occasions such as Heroic Encounters, when someone runs a loot macro to loot and when a boss mob falls, the macro will pull the credits, but if someone has a full inventory, the potentially rare items the mobs may have disappear with the corpse instantly). One proposal for a change would be to have credits looted from a corpse be in the form of a Credit Chip item that a player would have to radial deposit instead of the current design.

Note: While this is a role for the Rebel and Imperial Senators, it is being mentioned a lot and has been discussed everywhere that the GCW system as a whole is lacking. GCW does not equal PVP, and players would like to see the GCW be important in every aspect, as it makes up a huge portion of what people believe Star Wars is. This, like every system in SWG, can be categorized as Game Play related, the Proper Senators are the ones who have a better grasp of what their community feels should happen to the GCW. Please refer to their top 5 issues list for an approach to better the GCW system.

No Trade and loot drops in place of GCW eh?  Wrong tbh.

Here was my top five:

  1. Game Play Focus: Server Population Imbalance

Among the 25 live servers, some servers are very busy while others are very quiet.  Game Play experience differs greatly due to this.  Many players would like to see some form of server consolidation in the short term to address this issue, but this would also be extremely disruptive for those that do not wish to move.

  2. Factional Combat: Make the Galactic Civil war have more of an impact on the game world by making Enhancments to the Planetary Control Meta Game which would in turn Address "Baseclubbing".

  3. Encourage Grouping: Remove the existing barriers that make grouping with others an unrewarding experience.  More information here in Game Play Concept: Mentoring (Apprenticeship) System

  4. Game Play Focus: Making targetting more intuitive. : Make Auto-Aim and Auto-Attack the default keymap setting for new players and returing veterens as this system is infintately easier to use and understand than manual aim.

Players would like to see similar targetting options for the ground game to the ones available in space, such as:

    Target Closest Enemy
    Target Closest Enemy Player
    Target Next Enemy Player
    Target Previous Enemy Player

    Target Closest Friend
    Target Closest Friend Player
    Target Next Friendly Player
    Target Previous Friendly Player

    Target Closest NPC
Target Last Enemy That Shot Player

  5. Game Play Focus: User Interface Feature Requests: Resizable player heath bars and a choice of several new UI "skins", one of which being fairly unobtrusive in design (akin to a helmet heads up display), are popular requests from many players.

It is game play, like every profession, system, etc. but we have 2 senators to take care of those issues.

That's not how it works mate, you cover all areas of the game and have to see which have the biggest problems.

GCW is right up there.

I have to cover the general areas of problems people report. If i got specific with different systems there is no way I could restrict it to 5. There's a reason why we have multiple senators.

If you're going to base the top five on largest number of whine threads then put:

  1. "Dark Jedi is Overpowered"
  2. "Commando is Overpowered"
  3. Levelling is too slow, implement more levelling exploits.
  4. Completing content for rewards is too time consuming, please drop all rewards into players inventory when a publish is released.
  5. Players don't want to put in time or effort to earn credits, please Legalise Credit Farming.

I'll consider that for next time

perhaps you should call for all GCW threads to be locked and moved since they are not Game Play...

I acknowledge the fact that the GCW is game play, but so are the professions, crafting, space, politician, etc. Each have their own senators to represent them and they DO represent them. This is the opportunity to post general bugs and issues that do not have a certain senator representing them. That's what I'm called to do.
