Combat Roll Analysis: Devastation
Reference: Combat Roll Analysis: General Overlook
The Devastation combat roll is unique to Commandos only. This is designed to be a special roll that will only occur while the Commando is using a Heavy Weapon. Both COE and AOE Heavy Weapons can roll a Devastation. What a Devastation roll does is increase your base Heavy Weapon damage. Your listed MAXIMUM value for damage is now the new MINIMUM when you roll a Devastation. The new MAXIMUM is a 50% increase to the new MINIMUM. For example, if you Weapon has a Min-Max of 500-1000, you will see a Devastation land between 1000-1500. This bonus is added at the very beginning of combat, so your damage can still roll a Critical Hit.
To stack Devastation, you are very limited in the ways:
Maximum Devastation Chance – 22.5%
One of the positives of Devastation is that there is no Diminishing Return to worry about.
Strengths of Devastation
DPS Increase – The increase in damage from a Heavy Weapon attack can greatly improve. Combining this roll with a Critical Hit can result in massive damage potential.
AOE Bonus – Because your weapon is an AOE type, you will hit multiple targets with the Devastation if you roll one.
Weaknesses of Devastation
Ways to Increase Devastation
Professions Strong Against
Professions Weak Against
Professions Best to Stack it With
Professions Hardest to Stack it With
Summary
Devastation – Commando Only and increases base Min-Max of weapon to Max-Max * 1.5
Devastation Mod – Ratio 15 (Exotics + 2 / PUPs + N/A)
Stats to Stack – NONE
Other – Juggernaut Set
Another excelent thread. Well done once again.
Your posts are beyond awesome... thank you so much for these posts, and the effort involved in making them. BTW, your format is also perfect (IMO), it is clear and easy to understand.
Thanks,

power ups?
Thank you Cosmo .
Was devastation fixed? There's no mistake in your guide for sure, but I remember it didn't really work with long-range heavies, because of a bug. I think in gu4 it was fixed for flamers (and the cryo projector) but not for long-range heavies.
I hope my knowledge is outdated .

I think Swede managed to fix everything at the very last minute All types of HWs should now produce the Devastation damage bonus as well as any HW Damage Mod Bonuses.

Awesome! I will just get to work and complete a devastation-commando-concept that was in my mind for a very long time with a new suit of armor and my standard 9 weapons with attachs etc., next goal to reach . /login
lol. if you are really anxious, you could probably get your Devastation Chance to about 25%, and then stack crit like you've never stacked it before... talk about heavy damage.
A buddy and I run a Commando/Smuggler combo with him focusing on Devastation and myself maxing out Crit Chance. It's mainly a PvE combo but it's not a pretty from the NPC's point of view...
We will soon see this potential in real game play ...... I have 3 Devastation Mod bits to be pocessed into weapon, shirt, chest yet.
GREAT WORK ....... MC !!!! You set the standard!!!!!

I believe it was changed in GU4 to a max of 8%... though my mind has been so full of everything lately I might be mistaken...
