Combat Roll Analysis: Strikethrough

Reference: Combat Roll Analysis: General Overlook

The Strikethrough combat roll is an offensive roll that will bypass your target's armor mitigation % by a given Strikethrough Value that is determined by your stats. It is one of the strongest offensive abilities, but it is the hardest to stack. Strikethrough only works on Single Target attacks. Any AOE attack will never roll a Strikethrough.

The main stat on your statmod tab is called 'Combat Offense: Strikethrough'. 'Strikethrough Chance' is the modifier you want to look for if you plan to stack Strikethrough. The modifier bit has a ratio of 6, meaning your Exotic Mods will have a maximum value of 5. 'Strikethrough Chance' can also be made into Powerups that can get around 18 'Strikethrough Chance' Value. How your 'Strikethrough Chance' value is converted into the 'Combat Offense: Strikethrough' Percentage starts off as 'Strikethrough Chance' / 10 and the return decreases the higher you stack the 'Strikethrough Chance' modifier.

NOTE: X-Axis is 'Strikethrough Chance' value and the Y-Axis is the 'Combat Offense: Strikethrough' Percentage

The modifier 'Strikethrough Chance' is subject to Diminishing Returns. To avoid hitting the Diminishing Returns, you can use alternative buffs such as food or profession enhancements. You can also stack the core stat modifiers Precision and Luck. For every 1 point of Precision, you receive a return of .005% 'Combat Offense: Strikethrough '. Luck works the same way, except it also increases your Strikethrough Value. Every 1 point of Luck is .1% Strikethrough Value.

Another way to increase your Strikethrough Value is to stack the modifier 'Strikethrough Value'. This is a separate modifier that has a ratio of 4. Every 2 points of 'Strikethrough Value' is 1% increase to your maximum Strikethrough Value. Strikethrough Value works on a Min to Max scale. The more you stack Luck and 'Strikethrough Value', the higher you increase the Min and Max you'll hit with every Strikethrough roll. The Minimum Value increases half as fast as the maximum value, so a 15% increase to 'Strikethrough Value' will increase your Maximum by 15% and your Minimum boy 7% (7.5% rounded down). Your default Minimum 'Strikethrough Value' is 5% and your Maximum is 9%. Note: You cannot stack over 100% Maximum 'Strikethrough Value'. Once you get your Maximum to 99% (Minimum 49%), your Minimum and Maximum are capped and any extra Strikethrough Value you stack is a waste.

TheRockStar did an analysis on Strikethrough and found hte mest way to stack to the cap. Either stack 890 Luck, or stack 620 Luck and 27% through 'Strikethrough Value' Powerups.

On a successful Strikethrough roll, you will bypass your target's mitigation % by a random Strikethrough Value % between your Minimum and Maximum Value. It does NOT bypass the Armor Value of your target. If you land a Strikethrough against a target for 75% and their Mitigation is 60%, they will only reduce your incoming damage by 15%.

The combat log will display the Strikethrough roll similar to this format:

To Be Updated

Note: The combat log will not display a Block executing when you Strikethrough a target, but the damage will be reduced if your opponent rolls a Block at the same time.

Strengths of Strikethrough

  • Strong offense in PVP - Many players in PVP will be stacking armor very heavy. It is not uncommon to see a Commando with 75% Mitigation. If you hit a Strikethrough on an attack that does 6000 Damage, instead of doing only 1500 Damage, you could potentially deal 5940. This is basically a 300% increase in damage
  • Negates Glancing Blow - There's nothing worse than having a target reduce your damage by their armor, and then reduce it by another 60% because you rolled a Glancing Blow. If you Strikethrough, Glancing Blow will not occur, so you won't see that extra reduction occur
  • Top of the order in Offensive Rolls - Between Strikethrough and Critical Hit, Strikethrough will roll first. Critical Hit is a lot easier to stack, so it is good that Strikethrough will roll first with it's lower occurance %

Weaknesses of Strikethrough

  • Extremely hard to stack heavy - Strikethrough Chance has a fairly high ratio and it only gives you .1% for every 1 'Strikethrough Chance' mod. Even stacking 'Strikethrough Chance' through every means possible, the average player will see about 20% 'Combat Offense: Strikethrough'. In addition to the chance, you need to stack Strikethrough Value or it is worthless.
  • Single Target attacks only - An AOE attack will never Strikethrough. You must take into account what type of damage is your most powerful type and if it is worth the gambleto stack Strikethrough for you.
  • Not as effective in PVE - Some will disagree with me here, but I wanted to bring up that most high end NPCs, including boss mobs, only have 9000 Armor Value. This is roughly 62% Mitigation. You might be better off stacking Critical Chance as high as possible over Strikethrough due to their lower Armor Mitigation already.

Ways to Increase Strikethrough / Strikethrough Value

  • Core Stats - Precision and Luck
  • Buffs - Officer
  • Food - Flameout
  • Jewelry - Heroic Jewelry (Spy, or Heroism set for Luck)
  • Other - Heroic Encoutners (IG-88)

Professions Strong Against

  • All

Professions Weak Against

  • None

Professions Best to Stack it With

  • Spy
  • Smuggler
  • Bounty Hunter
  • Entertainer

Professions Worst to Stack it With

  • Commando
  • Officer

Summary

  • Strikethrough - Bypasses target's armor by %
  • Strikethrough Chance - Ratio 6 (Exotics + 5 / PUPs + 18)
  • Strikethrough Value - Min-Max range. 5-10% to 49-99%
  • Stats to Stack - Precision (100:0.5% ST), luck (100:0.5% ST and 10:1% ST Value), Strikethrough Value (2:1% ST Value)
  • Other - IG-88, Flameout

I want to thank TRS for a lot of the major testing associated with ST. His work made a lot of this possible.

Jolly good.

It's my intention to make a table that illustrates more or less what your graph illustrates; I don't know if you perhaps already have such a thing that the graph data was based off.

But I know for ST Stackers, it would certainly be useful to show the DR off stacking various ST Chance exotics and powerups.

I might have a little number crunch later on this afternoon

Also, I think your guide does say this, but could I just be certain - ST Chance as a modifier is subject to DR, but, if I stack Luck or Precision as a mod, the resulting ST Chance is not subject to DR?

Just to let ya know, the Officer buff gives a 5% Strikethrough Chance and i think 32% Stikethrough Value, aswell as Officer offence rally banner which gives another 5% to chance. I forget if the banner gives any value.

There's a few things listed in the ST Link of my signature that go into methods to stack Luck for more ST Chance, things like the Musty Willpower stims, styptic powder, shard of retal, lair crystal etc.

You can go ahead and put Medic in the "Worst to stack it with" for all offensive modifiers.

Can anyone give me an example of the math for ST hit?

Say 6k armor (50% mitigation), 1000 pre-armor hit, 73% ST Value.

What is the NET damage in this example?
