Well I wanted to sign our "virtual year book" if you will and ask for you to post your 6th Anniversary memories with people here. Another great way to let others know the good memories you have had over the year or since you started playing.
My memories are not very long in time but I am racking them up by number. I have the SWG "thing" now too as my friends tell me. I play as often as I can and usually for 5-8 hours at a time. I have been contacting old friends and having them try out this great game and to hang out with some really great people. I am looking forward to Fan Faire this week and all the memories that will provide.
Thank you all that have welcomed me and shown me so many great areas of SWG. I have enjoyed all the great messages I get while playing and people visiting my town, Mos Locos in Tatooine, that just to stop by and say hello.
Here's to more great memories!
my fav memory is stumbling upon the Rebel Base on Corellia way back in 2003 and sending tells out to everyone and getting responses like "no way, youre lying, that is so awesome"
also I enjoyed the massive fights we used to have on Corellia
galaxy seems so small now
/salute
Unfortunately the past year has not been the best of my experiences with SWG.
It started off well, as a friend returned to the game since 2006, under the 5th year free subscription month, and that was over 2 years away from the game, and was a great surprise to see him back. I subscribed to the game from about Sep 2007 to Sep 2008 for a whole year, and played it virtually solidly to get my moneys worth, but then after Sep 2008 came, I just needed a bit of break, it was only one month, and I returned in October, but by that time my friend seemed to have given up with the game and quit, as found the game too hard on his own and without my help, and has not been back again since (solution=game needs more solo activity). Who knows maybe he will be back again this year?
Also, was getting excited about the Hoth instance, but was a bit disappointed that at least 4 players could enter, as I usually only play with 2 other people, We are like the 3 Musketeers, 3 Amigos, 3 stooges... and don't tend to play with others much. SMS is the initials of each of our handles, and is what I created the guild from.
The Halloween Moon Festival was great experience, and did that a lot with each of my toons, and then afterwards enjoyed the the Life Day event too, gathering GCW tokens, which got me into getting ranked up.
Then came 2009, which involved the House Pack Up, and virtually everyone leaving Valcyn for greener pastures. Although the lack of population to virtually non-existent is not too much to worry about, the econmony of the server is completely ruined. Did try other servers, by transferring a couple of Trader toons, but just couldn't get going on another more populated server, and so recreated new toons back on Valcyn again (not a problem with stored resources, recreated a CL90 Trader in 2 hours! pre-CU it took that long just to grind one of the tier 4 boxes)
Then there was the Ewok Love Festival which was among the pack up, only did it on one char. The match making quest was just too much to deal with on more than one, is was too much for one char but had to get the badges/collections on my main!
Also around the love festival another friend returned to game, whcih was short lived of about a month, as just couldn't do anything in game, as found the systems unfun, and the dead server did not help.
Thats that really, we have now come full circle for the year.
This time last year, things were looking rather rosy, with loads of thing in the pipeline especially the Hoth instance, but now there are not. Nothing great on the horizon. Smedley has stated that SWG is safe until at least The Old Republic is launched, but he himself admits that the closure of SWG is a possibility!
The only that gives hope for a future depends on what this new system is going to be, and judging by what has been said by various people of SOE, is that its not going to be anything which will take this game in huge leaps and bounds into the right direction. What SWG needs is a new expansion. Even City of Heroes is getting another expansion - Going Rogue, and their last one was in 2005 with Villains. They are in a similar boat as well, as Cryptic created CoH/CoV but now pursuing their own MMO with Champions Online, and so City of Heroes is in danger from Champions Online as is SWG with The Old republic, but are still releasing an expansion. City of Heroes also get game updates too, the recent one being the Architect system where players can create their own own story arcs (I'm hoping the new system is going to be something along the lines of that Architect system.
There does also seem to be another hope for this game - Draakull. With his new found passion for the game, things have been going in the right direction, and hopefully be able to convince the powers at SOE that SWG is worth investing their time (and money) in getting back on track.
/raises glass to Draakull - To you, SWG, and the future, you're our only last hope for a succesfull game, and if anyone can do it, it will be you
I like to kill stuff via PvP.
A while after my wife had started playing we decided to head off of Tatooine and see some of the other planets. As a way of saying "Goodbye" to Tat, we planned to walk from Mos Espa down to Mos Eisley and head off planet from there.
We'd been walking for a ways and came across something we'd not seen marked on the map. It looked like an abandoned bunker so we decided to head closer to check it out. As we got closer, what looked like an abandoned bunker turned out to be just that. We also quickly noticed the Tuskens that were guarding thier Bunker. To this day, I don't think I've seen her run away from something that fast with her character!
I remember being a super low level player and i found Exar Kun's Temple and got all excited.
My Favorite moment was Dec 2003 Unlocking my jedi by mastering Rifleman
Least favorite.. Jan 2004 PERMADEATH!!
What i miss most is corpse runs
1. Convincing Rallek (after NGE) that he would unlock Elder Jedi after he played for two years.
2. A Parasoo rant in vent.
3. Nalcomis in vent.
4. Rezzing MnMRacer when HK was a challenge after it first came out.
5. Epic ganks of Rallek.
6. Discovering NUMLOCK.... (I used to set my cell phone on the walk key)
7. Anything xZIMx does...
Week one: Everyone was running around with pistols and I saw the first person with a CDEF Rifle. I was so impressed. I was like OMG thats a sweet rifle... haha. Also during this week and year the servers and cities were full. Pretty much any city you went to would have no less then 50 people running around.
You had to run to all the locations. No swoops. There was no Wayfare Shuttle so the trip to Jabba's palace took quite awhile. There were no houses in the desert exactly the way a desert should be it was a wasteland. (I think one big mistake SOE made is letting people put houses anywhere but whatever).
If I could have the game revert back to year one that would be the best because all the greatest memories are from that time... Maybe its just because it was new for me then but could be it was better then too.
I started the game on a 14 day trial at the beginning of 2004 I think. To earn credits, I just did them delivery missions from mission terminals. The ones I was doing were just all in Mos Eisley, but I got one which was for me to deliver something to someone in Mos Entha, but I didn't know about the world map to see where I actually had to go, so with practically no terrain negotiation on my novice scout/novice marksman I travelled the whole way on foot and I remember thinking while walking up every hill "This person must be on the other side of this hill", "Okay, other side of this next hill" and so on. Probably the most compelling 40 minutes I've had in any game.
I joined up to a guild soon after, and got in a base slicing group. I had no idea what was going on, but I remember seeing the red ribbons from TKM skills, and from that point on I started grinding a brawler just so I was able to do stuff like that. My account ran out soon after, and I wasn't able to re-subscribe until end of October that year.
I miss when Jedi were rare and not every one and their brother was one. Bring back perma death!
The memory that sticks most in my mind, was when the hologrind was in full swing. I'd never really been interested in jedi, but just for something to do I decided to have a crack at it. The first holo I got told me to master TKM, I was fine with that as I was 2 boxes from master anyway, having decided to take a short break from BH.So I mastered TKM, then Doc (nice combo!) but eventually went back to BH. Then we all got a free holo and I said to my friend ' I bet it tells me to master Image Designer'
I never realised I was psychic..Needless to say, I didn't bother, though perhaps I should have as ID was easy back then..and I eventually mastered everything else When the village came along I had 4 free unlocks, yet STILL didn't pursue jedi..I just hunted them Another memory, back preCU when the Base wars on Bria were still going on, I was in the guild FOE and we were at base defence, and as usual, we were not attacked..however a CSR decided to have a little fun...and spawned DJM's and Supwer Battle Droids...that sure made the usually boring defence a little more fun
I guess a favorite memory is the launch of player Cities, and the months directly after that. I was Mayor, and a few member of our Guild put together a plan to be the first player city on Tempest. We succeded, and built one of the top 2 merchant cities on the server.
I also have fond memories of my time on Test Center at launch. The clusters of people around the public crafting stations in Coronet, sampling whatever was under their feet for xp while we crafted cheap stuff for XP. I was the first person to make a Protocol droid on Test.
Vehicle launch day was very cool too, as I got my first look at Endor. I could whiz right by the nasties and laugh as they choked on my dust, where the day before, I wouldn't have made it more than 200m from the safety of the base.
Most of all, I have to say that I miss the variety we had as players. 32 professions, of which you picked 2 and some change. Jedi wasn't one of the choices. That was a decision made for money reasons, like so many of the decisions these days (tcg anyone?). Being able to mix and match was fantastic, and your skill came not from button mashing and levels, but from clever use of your skill's, not to mention the skills of the crafting community in providing everyone with everything they needed to get by. Now, it's all loot, and no decay. Dumbed down.
I miss my first sunset on Naboo, Dantooine in the morning, and the novelty of rain and sandstorms.

The most fun I've ever had in this game and why I'll never forget it or the people involved.
One of my most memorable experiences in this game was my first day playing in late July of 2003. The first time playing the game (live) was like a dream come true, I'd been waiting so long for it. I remember when it was first announced and how excited I'd been at the prospect of playing my own original character in a fully immersive Star Wars universe. Those first few moments exploring Mos Eisley, running around the desert (since there where no mounts or vehicles at the time, you had to walk or shuttle everywhere) were so thrilling. One of the first thing I did was hike from Mos Eisley to Wayfar. All alone and with little more than a CDEF pistol, I started the long walk across the desert, encountering all manner of beasts that I as a beginning Marksman could barely manage to handle. Each encounter was a fight for my life, but I was committed to reaching my faraway destination. I remember being swarmed by a number of Cannibal Dewbacks just outside of Bestine and barely surviving the encounter. I knew if I wanted to live through the adventure, I'd need to start getting my character some experience. So, I camped out at Bestine for awhile and got to work, starting with Womprats and working my way up to Scyks, earning little money and finding even less loot (this was a time when the markets were COMPLETELY player based. There were no Junk Dealers to sell your loots to, and practically everything, weapons, clothing had to be purchased from other players). Eventually, I earned enough money from hunting and delivery missions (remember those delivery missions? Those were probably the easiest and best way to make a few credits in the game...I spent so many hours running delivery missions from Mos Eisley to Bestine to Mos Taike and all points in between), and after ranking up on my Marksman skill tree, I finally managed to upgrade my pistol...to my beloved DL-44. I got a custom job made for I think around 9,000 credits, with a silver plated barrel and black body, just like the one Luke and Han used in Empire Strikes Back. It was so cool! It was a somewhat unique custom I thought since I saw very few people with it, and it packed a punch. Way better than the CDEF pistol, it was my trusty sidearm for many months.
Finally, after a few days of earning money and increasing my skills, I set back out across the desert, intent on completing the hike I had originally set about on. As hard as it is to believe, the distance between Bestine and Wayfar was extremely long and EMPTY. There were no player houses. Tatooine was as I always imagined it to be---a barren wasteland with little in the way of civilization. I decided to stop in at Anchorhead...a town which would soon become a regular destination for me. Around this time, people (mainly Rebels) had begun to hang out in the small bar in Anchorhead. There were always people there---musicians, dancers, wanderers, soldiers, outlaws...you name it. I walked in and sat down and rested for awhile, enjoying the music from the small band that had established themselves there. I remember thinking how ALIVE the community was back then. People carved out their little niches on each world, unlike today where everyone hangs around Mos Eisley, back then, you could expect to see certain people in Anchorhead or Mos Espa, Coronet or Theed. People would become regulars, and would begin to know you if you continued going to some of these places.
Eventually, I hit the pavement again so to speak, and was on my way, contining to Wayfar. Back then, Wayfar had no shuttle port so you HAD to walk there...it was the only way. No vehicles, no mounts, no shuttles. Walk. The town had an almost mythical status in those early days since so few people dared venture out there. It became evident to me as I continued why. The dangers only increased as I continued travelling to the town. Scyks and Dewbacks and Feral Banthas and the various other indigenous species on the planet continued to increase in threat. I found myself with a dying pistol (over use had caused the weapon to degrade and I'd forgotten to get it repaired) and no backup. Soon, my trek to Wayfar became a run for life as I ran attempting to avoid the dangerous creatures. Night was the worst. It seemed for whatever reason that when the suns dropped and the sky darkened, it got even more dangerous out there. I was under almost constant assault during my trek between Anchorhead and Wayfar. I was even killed a few times, forced to respawn a number of times. However, at last, I would arrive at the small, isolated village. On my first visit, I was the only one there. I remained in town for a few days, not daring to trek out beyond its borders. One time I did however...what I found was amazing.
Rising into the sky was a massive structure. By then, I'd never seen anything at such a grand scale. I knew what it was the instant I saw it of course---Jabba's palace. So I ran for it. I was amazed at how large it was by the time I reached the base of the main structure. There were a few others around the building at the time. We spent awhile just exploring the outside, eventually finding our way in, but disappointed that we couldn't proceed any further than the entry point. The three of us that were there accepted on of the missions handed out, and went off in search of Tusken raiders. I would learn quickly however that I didn't possess near the skill to be able to go toe-to-toe with a Tusken, as I was killed within two shots of the Tusken's rifle. I revived back in Anchorhead, upset that I'd have to run all the way back out to Wayfar. I instead chose not to, and it wouldn't be until mounts were finally released some time later that I would revisit the town.
After that came vehicles, and suddenly, Tatooine didn't seem quite as big as it once did.
Well, that event encompasses my first week and a bit in game. Probably one of my more vivid memories about the early days. Other things have happened since then that are probably more interesting or 'sexy', but none quite as significant as this one.
