Game Play Concept: New 'Star Wars Galaxies Veteran' Standard Keymap

This is a work in progress.  I'm looking for info from veteran SWG players on what they remember of the old keymaps of Pre-CU and CU and how they currently have their keymap configured.

What options do you use?  What options would you like?  If we can agree on certain defaults that many players find useful then perhaps we could add it as a Standard Keymap.

How to Load a Standard Keymap:

"Load a standard keymap" is a drop-down menu with three options. The three options are:

Star Wars Galaxies: This is the default user interface set up for SWG. With this option, your left mouse and right mouse buttons will be your primary and secondary action/attack. To perform a secondary action/attack, you will have to queue up the action or ability and then press the right button on your mouse to fire the attack or use your action.

Star Wars Galaxies Classic: Selecting this option is _ exactly _ the same as the default SWG keymap except that the "Disable strafing with turn keys" option is unchecked.

Star Wars Galaxies Modern: Selecting this option is similar to the "Star Wars Galaxies" keymap, except that MOUSEBUTTON1 is bound to "Primary Action and Attack" and MOUSEBUTTON2 is bound to "Select Target and Summon Radial Menu".

What options would a Star Wars Galaxies Veteran standard keymap have?

Options that should be set when selecting this keymap:

Chase Camera Mode | Off
Auto Aim | On
Toggle Repeat Auto Attack | On
Actions can be fired from the toolbar | On

What key bindings would a Star Wars Galaxies Veteran standard keymap have?

I couldn't find an up to date guide to remapping your keys to suit a Pre-CU or CU player, closest I can find is this:

Asch Mha'Rhee's "How To Bind the CU Keymap NGE Survival Guide for Vets"

Here's what I've put together so far:

I don't think the target group members and toolbar panes are correct.  Control Fkeys were the top row of the toolbar.  I think changing toolbar panes was Control 1-6, and I don't recall a group member targeting since we had 20 man groups.

For me it always felt like "Star Wars Galaxies Modern" was like the old keymap, because you use the right mouse button to "Summon Radial Menu".  I agree with the other settings though:

Chase Camera Mode | Off
Auto Aim | On
Toggle Repeat Auto Attack | On
Actions can be fired from the toolbar | On

I also use following to copy and paste

I'm afraid a lot of your post, Badger, doesn't show up for me.

I took screenies of mine as so many people asked for it. It's adapted for newer commands, so isn't exactly the old keymap, but its the closest I could get:

No idea if this is any help, though.

What's up with the post?

Thanksd for the screenshots, I think I will have to document every keybinding in the "All" section.

I'm seeing black font on a dark blue background.

Errr... I had to use some HTML to get the table in, maybe I hosed the colour scheme somehow.

I'll check on the next edit, thanks.

I use the Pre-CU keybindings like in Asch's post. But with F1 to F12 for the toolbar. I dont use the Pre-CU mouse movement (holding down both buttons), I use the middle button now for moving. We cant hold down the left button to bring up the radial option anymore, so I have that bound to right click. Apart from that its the same as it was when I first started I think.

I'd love to see a Pre-CU default keymapping option, it takes quite a while to set up everything.

There a few things that prevent you getting a true old Keymap.

- You used to be able to HOLD right click to summon the radial menu, then move your cursor over your desired radial option, and release right click to activate it.

- "Clicking nothing clears target", this appears to be broken, as the option is still there, but clicking nothing doesn't untarget. We need this to work for the Intended Target, as the Look-At target clears when you move the mouse over nothing (without the need of a click) anyway.

- Double Left Click used to perform primary action.

I'd really, love to be able to bind those settings again, and have "clicking nothing clears target" work like it should.

Unfortuneatly there is no way to bind double clicks, or holding the right mouse button as described above.

I guess we need this options, which would be off by default but get turned on if you choose this new keymap:

Holding Right Click Summons Radial Menu | On

Double Left Click to Perform Primary Action | On

With "Clicking Nothing Untargets", I guess that is for people that don't hold down the mouse button to auto-attack?  You just target and toggle repeat auto attack on, so you want to untarget when you click.

I guess no one is listening, but like I said try testing "Star Wars Galaxies Modern".  It almost does everything you said.  On the keymap it doesn't show that the right mouse button "Summons Radial Menu" but it does.  Double Left Click will Perform Primary Action and Attack.  And if you use "clicking nothing untargets" you must use the right mouse button.

Thanks!

Right mouse button was used for moving forward in the old keymap, as you can see from my screenies. Left clicking on nothing was for clearing target.

Thanks for the info. Is there a way to enable the following?

  • If I have something selected as my "intended target", I want to:
    • Single click something else and automatically change my target, without attacking.
    • Double click something else and automatically change my target, and start auto-attacking.
  • Target something, use a special attack from the toolbar, and have auto-attack continue to fire without having to press another key/shortcut.

Thanks!

I remember using left+right button for moving forward in old keymap.  Sorry, I didn't realize that screenshot was from the pre-cu.
