NOT! So Glip leaves the team and the sky is falling? What about the rest of us - What are we? Chopped ham or chopped steak? BAH!

Glip will most definitely be missed but he hasn't moved far. As a matter of fact, I've had him come back a few times this week, which is within my rights to retain people for consultation purposes and acquire any free work we can use.  Glip leaving is just the nature of the beast. We lose people to other projects and we get new ones. This happens all the time and it never gets any easier. We've lost a few people to other projects recently but the end of the world didn't come. I swear, we are still here!!! We have new designers, artists and coders moving onto the team to keep Vanguard going strong and continue to produce more and more content for you to enjoy.

Isle of Dawn

Have you tried out the new Isle of Dawn starting area? I know you have because I've seen you there. The team is extremely proud of the new area and we hope you have enjoyed it. If you haven't tried it out yet, you can enter the new area by creating a new character and select to start off in the Isle of Dawn instead of your normal starting area. If you're not playing and you want to check it out, the Isle of Dawn is FREE TO PLAY. Just use this link to download easy access to the Isle of Dawn and play for free for 14 days. Be sure to give it to your friends as well. We're not shy, invite them to the party!: http://vanguard.station.sony.com/isleofdawn/  The Isle of Dawn has some of the best starting content you'll ever experience. We have some nice ads running on Stratics.com regarding the trial and soon to be other web sites, but I thought it was worth mentioning if you haven't seen them yet.

So what's coming?

Next week we're planning to launch some exciting content on the festive side and much much more on the non-festive side.

For Halloween, running October 22nd (tentative) through November 18th, the Festival of the Grim Harvest will be live! If you're in the mood to partake in the festivities, there will be an encampment outside of New Targonor to invite you into the fun. I'd love to say more but I'm not allowed to much time on the subject as I usually spill the beans and ruin the fun when it comes concealing secrets about new pets, collector's items, festive new masks and rare treats.

Spoiler alert...(See, this time I warned you about it before I spilled the beans)

We haven't said much about this next topic so I hope this finds you first and before any leak. There is new territory to adventure through with lots of good lore to explore. KDQ is looking for some fresh brave souls to experience new daily quests, over 700 new equip-able items, new recipes, new item modifications, a ton more surprises and yes, an item that is very similar to a bracelet only found on the Isle of Dawn. Read more over the next couple of days in the update notes and features posted by Amnerys. A small picture will be enclosed to give you a taste of what is coming. End of Spoiler alert....

What else is coming?

Tired of battling the same encounter that those other guys are getting wiped on...er, getting rewards for? Tired of waiting until they are done and then the next respawn? Well wait no more! The next update will also bring you four new overland boss mobs! So sharpen your weapons and start gathering supplies for the next encounter. Don't come alone, you're gonna need some friends. Get the word out!

Mix and match...

A few more things coming... We have a Ranger class update, new loot on the Core Processor to make him more valuable to knock around, new NPCs, bug fixes, and enhancements galore!

Besides this update, we've also started on content to hit right about the same time Santa is going over the naughty and nice lists. But before that, we hope to send out some additional content in late November (tentative) to continue on with the festive spirit of that time of year. One of the huge tasks we accomplished, that is almost ready for your consumption is Weapon Scaling. Since we knew that the characters were becoming more buff, weapon scaling would have to be completed to look comparable in relation to the new models. Also, we never liked the smallish size of many of our weapons so the team has taken care of that concern.

We'll release more details in the days to come regarding future development as well as more information regarding the Pantheon of the Ancients.

Thank you!

The Vanguard Team

When I first started reading that I thought it ment that weapon speed would become a factor in weapon choice instead of just damage damage damage.

Swallow me up whole inside a daydream
Everything is nothing here
And nothing really ever is as it seems

Colliding in this lovely catastrophe
You can open my eyes and you open them wide..

Firstly let me say how nice it is that we finally have an official response to so many questions that have been asked.

I, in honesty, am a little disappointed, as I have seen isle of dawn, and it leaves little for the established players. But i appreciate your detailed paragraph about how to access it.

the halloween event we anticipate, the new raid content on the thestran isle along witht he ranger updates will be awesome if properly tested, but can you please give us information on previous promises such as fishing, galleons, and further content. (actually not sure we have ever had content mentioned).

I really appreciate that I am being a little negative but your post is full of flufff we have asked for ingame to keep our interest. But sincerely I appreciate your contact and hope that its not the only one we have in the next 2 months,

Thanks for the reply and make sure glip keeps an eye on us as he is the only one that seems to of cared.

...and now for the sneak preview....

Thanks for the update.  It's very good to hear of the plans, as well as the producer's direction and interest.

It would be nice to promote or introduce new members to the design team.  Not only does it give us a chance to welcome and celebrate the new talent, but it makes us feel like we are part of an alive game.

The community had heard about and experienced IoD.

What is KDQ?

The other nwes is interesting but I noticed that there was update on the new Pantheon or Nexus.  Or character animation.  Or fishing.  Or galleons.  I like seasonal content but I like real, permenant game development more.

This was a good post.  Thank you Thom.

It will have been a very good post indeed if the forth-coming promised bug fixes contain things like fixing stair climbing, lessened hitching, entering water without stuttering and mousepointer corrections (and my own big pet peeve, the inability to see rain in Vista at high resolutions).

Glad to see that the sky is still there.   Here's hoping that the sky is the limit.

  • Environmental Shadows?
  • Water Reflections?
  • Water Distortions/water meets land integration(waves/foam)?
  • Still can't see rain on Vista64
  • Thunder/Lightening in weather system....?
  • Filling more content into all the vast open spaces of nothingness in this game?
  • Fishing?
  • Underwater flaura/fauna/fishes? ...
  • Use for boats/galleons?
  • Draw distance issues on many objects in game(including mobs) that still pop up right in front of you....???
  • Up the frequency on intercontinental ferry boats....?
  • More hairstyles?....
  • Sandsqualls/storms in relevant areas in the game?
  • More overland meanies to conquer?
  • Druid controlling/using the weather(to a point) as part of their class abilities? (let's make our boat go faster! Blow Harder Druid!!!)
  • ....
  • I could add more....

I would prefer you work on and add to existing parts of the game, to polish it up, make it more immersive and interactive.  You've got tons of land and water areas where there's absolutely NOTHING...

New stuff is appreciated, without a doubt, but really, there so much potential to existing areas, that you're forgetting all about those areas....

Well this is interesting.  And some of it is reassuring to hear.  I think I speak for many of us though when I say that we would kind of like to hear more about the long-term direction that the team is working on (at least for the next 4-6 months), however.  The idea that there is a roadmap, even if it is subject to change, helps make players feel better about waiting.
