1. comeing back to the game after a while a way and when i hit the play butten im geting a d3dx9_30.dll error, I've tried going to microsoft and getting Directx 9c there are a number of them and tried to reinstall/repair and nothing has worked.

    To create this:
    Press and hold the Windows key and tap the R key on your keyboard.
    In the box that pops up type DXDIAG and press Enter on your keyboard.
    Click the "Save all Information" button, located at the bottom of the program window.
    In the “Save As” box click the icon in the top bar, and then click on “Desktop”.
    Save the file as "dxdiag.txt"

    Post up until right after the sound card.

    update: Googling led me to Yahoo Answers which suggested installing to Windows/System32 but I can't as the folder is 'not writable'. I have win 7 64bit if that makes a difference.

    The DXWebupdate (small download program that then downloads what it needs), does not always work, especially if the files are already on the computer but may be corrupted. The large download ensures any possible corrupted files are overwritten.
    1. If you selected your EQ directory, you might as well as run the actual installation program from there. Locate dxsetup.exe and double click on it to actual install./update dx9c (10/11 are not backward compatible).

    1. Get the June 2010 DirectX 9.0C redistributable version (Caution: Download is about 108 MB) at:

    2. Run directx_june2010_redist.exe. Extract the files to an easily identifiable directory. This is the 1st most important part, getting the right file. Create folders like these, c:\directx or c:\download\directx, then extract the package into it.
    3. Go to the directory the files were extracted to in step and Run "DXSETUP.EXE" from that directory. This is the 2nd most important part, going to the right directory and actually running setup program.
    4. Accept the license agreement. Allow the installer to update the DirectX components.
  6. 1) This happened to me... On microsoft there is a windows direct X Master download that has ALL the parts of older dx files--download this and it will work. It's designed to fix these issues... You can google the name as well as many games have this issue... It's a MASTER update that has the missing files and will add them properly to your computer.
    Fix: I googled this for you from the tech site:
    I highly recommend NOT installing any random dll off the Internet that
    claims to be a legit system file. That's a fast way to get hacked.

    Run the latest DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer and it will install
    legit copies of all possible optional DirectX SDK components that might not
    be on your system. Some game installers out there let you skip running
    DirectX Runtime setup when in fact you really need it for D3DX9 and the
    like.

    Go to http://www.microsoft.com/directx and run the latest runtime web
    installer from there. It will not harm your Windows Vista system to run it.
  7. Ah yes, I see my error. I hadn't realised there was an executable amongst the files that downloaded. I am all set now and having fun back in EQ. Thanks for your help!
