Saving all UI Settings?

Discussion in 'General Tech Support Issues (Anything not covered)' started by ARCHIVED-Merlins_ghost, Nov 10, 2009.

  1. What is the definitive process and list of ALL files that need to be saved on a memory stick in order to move the game from one PC to another retaining all user settings?
There is a "backup" folder and "userdata" folder inside the Everquest folder but they don't seem to have anything important in them.
I have 13 "configuration" type files inside the Everquest folder so I am sure some of those contain settings, but it's dangerous copying all of them to a memory stick and then overwriting some of the config. files on the PC that I am moving the game to. Certainly the UI_toon_server files would be saved, but what about the other configuration files? Are there any other file types that should be saved?
So I am hoping someone from Sony's Technical Support group can provide the exact list of which files in which folders need to be copied to a memory stick and then copied to the new PC.
    Thanks for your response.../jim
PS: I did search for this, but found some circa 2007 info that seemed incomplete.
PS2: Seems like backing-up the settings would be a common practice, so why not include in a FAQ section?
  2. Only part of eqclient.ini, custom chat colors and hotkey bindings.
    UI_toonname_servername.ini
    Toonname_servername.ini
    Audio Trigger folder/subfolders
    Map folder
    UIfiles folder
  3. The Userdata folder contains your in-game address book for use with that email system, individual character settings for your Audio Triggers and appears to contain personal settings for /buyer mode in the bazaar too.
  4. Thanks Sark for the response....

What about the following ini files:
    eqlsClient
    eqlsUIConfig
    eqlsPlayerData
    VoiceChat
    LoginSettings
You did not include the five above in your post.
And.... I am assuming you do save the eqclient.ini file. Not sure what you meant by "part of".
    Thanks again...

Due to different machine, some of the eqclient.ini settings may not be appropriate for new machine and can cause issues, like the resolution/Video mode section. Those other files listed are default settings for various other items and are not modified directly by the user. A few are updated each time the account is accessed, others are created at first connection and not updated anymore, afaik (looking at modification dates), thus non-relevant.
  6. Thanks very much Sark for your kind reply and information!
    /me
PS: I wonder why Sony has failed to incorporate a "backup" process in the game for all user settings? Seems like an obvious thing that most players would want to do since it can take hours to attempt to recreate all the various settings from scratch. I'm guessing the devs backup their work.... lol.
  7. Here's the full list of files:
    defaults.ini
    Eqclient.ini
    eqhardware.ini
    Eqgfx_dx8.dll
    Eqgraphicsdx9.dll
    eqlsClient.ini
    Eqmain.dll
    Eqgame.exe
    <CharacterName>_<ServerName>.ini (example jack_bristlebane.ini)
    UI_<CharacterName>_<ServerName>.ini (example ui_jack_bristlebane.ini)
UI Files folder from your EverQuest directory.
Please keep in mind that transferring to computers with different resolution settings may require re-configuring the UI to a certain degree.

    No No No :)
eqhardware.ini is no longer modified, and if copied to a new machine may cause graphic issues.
eqlsclient.ini should be allowed to recreate itself. Basically tis URL locations.
